Caprese Panini with Balsamic Glaze

Prep: 5 mins Cook: 5 mins Total: 10 mins Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 2 slices ciabatta or sourdough bread
  • 3 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Layer mozzarella slices, tomato slices, and fresh basil between the two pieces of bread. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Brush the outside of each bread slice with olive oil (or spread butter).
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan.
  4. Press down with a heavy pot or another skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy.
  5. Flip, press again, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted. Drizzle with balsamic glaze, slice, and serve.

Recipe Tips

  • Use the best tomatoes you can find — this sandwich lives or dies by ingredient quality.
  • Pat tomato slices dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy bread.
  • No balsamic glaze? Simmer regular balsamic vinegar in a small pan until it thickens (3-4 minutes).
  • Add prosciutto for a non-vegetarian version.
