Caprese Panini with Balsamic Glaze
Ingredients
- 2 slices ciabatta or sourdough bread
- 3 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 4-5 fresh basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Layer mozzarella slices, tomato slices, and fresh basil between the two pieces of bread. Season with salt and pepper.
- Brush the outside of each bread slice with olive oil (or spread butter).
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan.
- Press down with a heavy pot or another skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy.
- Flip, press again, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted. Drizzle with balsamic glaze, slice, and serve.
Recipe Tips
- Use the best tomatoes you can find — this sandwich lives or dies by ingredient quality.
- Pat tomato slices dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy bread.
- No balsamic glaze? Simmer regular balsamic vinegar in a small pan until it thickens (3-4 minutes).
- Add prosciutto for a non-vegetarian version.
