Margherita Flatbread
Ingredients
- 2 naan breads or large pita rounds
- 1/3 cup marinara or pizza sauce
- 6 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced or torn
- Fresh basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
- Balsamic glaze for drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) or preheat broiler. Place naan on a baking sheet.
- Spread marinara sauce evenly on each naan, leaving a small border.
- Distribute fresh mozzarella pieces on top.
- Bake 7-9 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly and edges are golden (or broil 3-4 minutes, watching carefully).
- Remove from oven. Top with fresh basil leaves, a drizzle of olive oil, and red pepper flakes. Slice and serve.
Recipe Tips
- Broiling is faster (3-4 minutes) but watch it like a hawk — it goes from perfect to charred in seconds.
- Tear the mozzarella into pieces rather than slicing for more rustic melting.
- Add basil AFTER baking — it wilts and turns black in the oven.
- Try other toppings: prosciutto, arugula, fig jam, or ricotta.
